Frequency Offset Tracking Scheme for SC-FDE Systems

In this paper, we propose a new residual frequency offset tracking scheme for a SC-FDE(Single Carrier – Frequency Domain Equalizer) with frequency domain pilots. The SC-FDE system is a field that gathers more and more interests for the modulation scheme of a broadband wireless service. In the case of considering a high-speed data transmission in a multi-path fading channel, a conventional time domain equalizer, such as a DFE(Decision Feedback Equalizer), have too much taps of equalizer. Then an implementation of such a DFE is too difficult. For that reason, SC-FDE system performs equalization in frequency domain instead of time domain using FFT and IFFT. We analysis the effect of a freuqnecy offset in a freuqency domain and propose a new method of a frequency synchronization. We describe a method to assign frequency domain pilots and a tracking algorithm of residual frequency offset using these pilots. Moreover, we verify the proposed algorithm using a computer simulation.
